Sydney - sightseeingA good walk if you want an overall sightseeing morning or afternoon is to start from the Art Gallery of New South Wales located near the domain. Alight the city circle train at St James. The galley has an impressive permanent collection and regular international exhibitions. Currently a Japanese show by the name of ’Seasons’ is on display from the 16th of August till the 26th of October. The New Zealand artist Colin McCahon is showcased between the 15th of November 2003 and the 18th of January 2004. For some home grown talent the Dobell Prize for Drawing is held from the 12th of September till the 13th November. From here takes a leisurely stroll through the gorgeous Botanical Gardens. There is a great view across the harbour and a peaceful atmosphere.
At the end you will reach the iconic gliding shape of the Opera House sitting across the harbour from the bridge. Make sure to be wearing some hard core pants for a little known spot of fun. Slide down one of the ramps at the base of the opera house! This will give the tourist something to take photos of!!!
From here follow the crowds around Circular key for a hectic look, then get quickly out of there. Food and drinks are over priced and the Quay lacks a lot in the charm department.
After the key you reach the Museum of Contemporary Arts. Another dash of free culture awaits. Often the shows here are very good. At the moment a well known Australian artist Susan Norrie is exhibiting her recent works in a show called ’Underground’ from the 22nd of July till the 12th of October, 2003. Also ’Primavera’ from the 17th of September till 30th of November is an annual display of young emerging Australian artists.
To finish the walk, stroll through the historical Rocks area where it is easy to find an excellent café, restaurant or pub.
